The East Block was constructed by Jones, Haycock & Company between 1860 and 1865. An addition was later built between 1910 and 1913. Like the West Block, the East Block was intended to house the civil service of the new Dominion. Over the years it was occupied by prime ministers, the Privy Council, and various government departments.

East Block is located on Parliament Hill, at 111 Wellington Street. Tours begin at the Governor General's Entrance, in the centre of the building. There are no washrooms or baby changing stations available onsite. There is no bag or coat check. There are no food services.

History In 1859, the architects Thomas Stent and Augustus Laver designed the East Block in Gothic Revival-style. They added a wing in 1910 to meet the needs for more government office space. The new wing linked the ends of the original building and was designed differently.
